What is “Books for Babies?”

Books for Babies is a family literacy program which recognizes, celebrates and supports parents as their children’s first teachers. Books for Babies encourages parents to read to their children early in life as birth to 2-3 years is an important window of opportunity for the brain to develop language skills.

Books for Babies typically involves a public health nurse delivering a baby-friendly reading kit to “the newest member of your community.”¬† The kit includes a delightful canvas book bag¬†containing suitable books to share with your child, a few tips to help make reading a pleasurable activity for the whole family and suggestions on some good books to share with your baby.

Books for Babies also wants to make parents more aware of the strong influence they have on their children’s attitudes towards literacy and learning!
